Explain why I should buy Helter Skelter( besides it being a limited edition )
Cause it’s good.
Obviously we don’t know your personal tastes in manga but here are some better reasons…
- It’s by Kyoko Okazaki, the mother of Josei manga and mentor of Moyoco Anno, Ai Yazawa and Erika Sakurazawa.
- It is a multiple award-winning manga. Helter Skelter has picked up some of the biggest awards in manga and Japanese modern art over the last decade.
- It is a very honest and brutal look at the Japanese fashion industry. Very adult, very intense, and very dark even though the subject manner is high fashion.
Yeah, this is a limited run 18+ title. And yeah it’s a rare josei title that will help determine whether the josei market is viable in the US. But what’s important is that it is great story that has been recognized globally for it’s compelling narrative. We hope English readers will also see its greatness. :)
Hi! I wanted to ask whether you'll publish any other works from Asumiko Nakamura? Because I really really love her works and although I haven't recieved my copy yet because I'm not from the US I'd really love to see some more in my bookshelf : )
Make sure that UTSUBORA sells out and yeah, we will quickly move to release more from her. We really want to but obviously, that’ll be based on how her debut work does.
UTSUBORA goes on sale next week. Pre-order it now!
hello friend how are shinsekai yori's chances for a translation looking?
We get this ASK almost every week…
And once again, please support the manga, cause the survey is not looking good.
Would you consider licensing Kazuo Umezu's Ultraman? I'm very interested in seeing what Umezu would do with the Ultra series, and it seems to be short (2 volumes, could be complied into one). I'd also be interested in the manga of Midgame. Lastly, any chances of any classic Shojo? I'm particularly interested in Banana Bread Pudding by Yumiko Oshima. Are any of these even remotely possible?
Interesting suggestions for Ultraman and BBP. But I think our window for anything pre-2000 is quickly closing. Just to expensive to remaster those files. The risks are also very very high.
But who knows.
A suggestion for licensing: there is a one-shot "Amon Saga" manga (978-4861762055) that Yoshitaka Amano had a hand in (he did the art, Baku Yumemakura did the writing).
Interesting. Not really what we are looking for but Amano does have his share of fans.
It feels kinda weird to ask an opinion of a collective of people that help run a publishing company, however what is your opinion on free scanlations and manga hosting websites? Thanks for your time!
Feels kinda weird to respond…especially since we are asked all the time.
Hmm… They exist and in general, they are not helping the industry. At the same time, we hope that fans and scanlators alike respect author rights by supporting the print releases when they are available for sale in your regions and to stop scanlating/take down files when licenses are picked up in your language.
My Utsubora preorder came, yay <3
It’s absolutely beautiful, I hope more of Nakamura Asumiko’s work comes out in English. There are very few manga that I can be bothered to purchase nowadays, but I think her work is worth it and she deserves the support.Come on Asumiko-sensei’s fans, her work deserves a shot!
What she said :)
